Payment & Transfers
What are payments and bank transfers?
Payments and bank transfers are services that allow you to send money from one bank account to another, within the same bank, to another bank in Albania or to a beneficiary abroad.
Why are they used?
These services are used for sending money, paying bills, business payments, personal payments, payments to institutions or transfers to family members, partners or other beneficiaries inside and outside the country.
Main types of transfers
- Intra-bank transfer
It is carried out between two accounts that are in the same bank. It is usually faster and may have lower costs.
- Inter-bank transfer within the country
It is carried out from one bank to another bank within Albania. The cost and processing time may vary depending on the bank, amount, currency and channel used.
- International transfer
It is carried out to a bank account outside Albania. These transfers usually have higher fees and may also include intermediary bank costs or exchange rate differences.
What should you compare?
When comparing payments and transfers, pay attention to:
Transfer fee
Processing time
Transfer currency
Channel used: branch, internet banking or mobile banking
Minimum and maximum transfer limit
Costs for intermediary banks in international transfers
Exchange rate, if the transfer is made in foreign currency
Option to split commissions: OUR, SHA or BEN
Choose the transfer according to your needs
For transfers within the same bank, focus on speed and service fee.
For transfers to other banks in Albania, focus on the commission, processing time and channel used.
For transfers abroad, focus on the fee, exchange rate, intermediary banks and the way in which commissions are split.
For online or mobile banking payments, focus on cost, ease of use, and daily transaction limits.
What you need to know?
The cost of a transfer doesn’t just depend on the bank’s fee. For international transfers, there may also be fees from the intermediary bank, exchange rate differences, and other costs that affect the final amount the recipient receives. For this reason, it’s important to compare not only the commission, but also the way the transfer is made and the full terms of service.
Frequently asked questions
Are transfers within the same bank faster?
In most cases, yes. Transfers within the same bank are usually processed faster than transfers to other banks.
What is an interbank transfer?
It is a transfer that is made from an account in one bank to an account in another bank.
Why do international transfers cost more?
Because they can involve international payment networks, correspondent or intermediary banks, as well as currency exchange costs.
What do OUR, SHA, and BEN mean?
These indicate how the fees are divided in an international transfer. OUR means that the fees are paid by the sender, SHA means that the fees are divided between the parties, and BEN means that the fees are passed on to the beneficiary.
Is it cheaper to transfer online than in a branch?
In many cases, banks may apply lower fees for transfers made through internet banking or mobile banking, but this depends on the terms of each bank.
